BUFFALO, NY – In the last home regular season game at UB Stadium for senior captains Greg Galemore (Rochester, NY/West Morris), Matt Stuczynski (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) and Mbwana Johnson (San Fernando, Trinidad/Pleasentville), the UB men's soccer team rallied early and managed to score the game's lone goal in the first two minutes of play send IPFW to a 1-0 loss. The cold, frigid conditions managed to spark some conflict, as there were a total of 38 fouls between the two teams.

After the game's opening kick-off, UB pounced first, able to apply pressure to the IPFW defense and manage some key opportunities. Junior Brian Knapp (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) had a Herculean throw-in that made its way into the IPFW box. Mastodon goalkeeper Michael Knitter got a chance to cradle the ball in, but he bobbled it, allowing junior Andrae Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica/DeWitt Clinton) to clean up the mess and put the ball into the wide-open net at the 1:17 mark in the first half. The early goal fired up the UB bench as well as the die-hard fans who sat in attendence.

IPFW, after being held shotless in the first half, came out looking to score the equalizer. There were many close calls, and frustration would ultimately overcome the team as they could not dribble past the fearsome UB flat-back. The UB defense prevented many chances and kept the Mastodons from getting a shot off on net. Junior goalkeeper Daniel Bell (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame) collected his seventh shutout of the season on five total shots.

UB extends its record to 12-2-0 (2-1 MAC), while the Mastodons exit with a 3-11-0 (0-3 MAC) record, including eight times in which the team has been shutout all season. Buffalo won the shooting duel by a 17-5 differential.

UB goes on the road for its final two games of the season, traveling to Western Michigan on Friday at 3 pm, and then to nationally 22nd-ranked Northern Illinois Sunday at 2 pm.
