Bulls Fall to Wildcats 1-0

Early Kentucky Goal Halts UB Hopes for First Conference Win

BUFFALO, NY — The University at Buffalo finally got to play on their home field after opening with ten-straight games on the road, but the home field advantage wasn't enough for the Bulls as Kentucky scored early and held on for a 1-0 win.

The Wildcats took advantage early against the Bulls for the game's only goal. Ilkka Jantti sent a pass down the left side that got by the UB defense, and Chris McDaniel took the ball to the box and shot it past UB goalkeeper Brian Wozniak (Canton, MI/Plymouth Salem) at the 3:16 mark to give Kentucky the 1-0 lead. That lead would hold throughout the rest of the first half.

The second half saw a physical game that had a total of 36 fouls and five yellow cards. Kentucky had a lot of shot opportunities but could not capitalize and the Bulls had their fair share of shots as well. With ten minutes to play, Brian McCallion (Ballston Spa, NY/Shenendehowa) had an opportunity halted as UK goalkeeper Brian O'Leary came up to the top of the box to knock the ball away. A few minutes later, Bill Norberg (Allison Park, PA/Shaler) had a shot from the left side that went just wide and the Wildcats would hold on for the 1-0 conference win.

UB falls to 4-6-1 overall and 0-3-0 in the MAC while Kentucky improves 7-5-0 overall and 3-1-0. The Bulls will be in action again on Tuesday, October 17 when they play at Niagara. UB then will host Western Michigan and Northern Illinois next weekend.
