Bulls On Five-Game Win Streak

UB is currently riding a five-game winning streak. The Bulls have defeated Siena, Delaware, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan and Long Island on the streak. The Bulls five-game win streak includes three games on the road. They will look for six straight this weekend when UB travels to play at Kentucky.

Astudillo Gets 100th Career Win

With a 4-2 victory over Long Island University on Oct. 10, UB head coach John Astudillo recorded the 100th win in his coaching career. With a 9-3-1 record this year, Astudillo now has a career record of 100-83-13 in his 11th season as head coach. All 11 years have been with the Unviersity at Buffalo.

Another milestone he is approaching is the all-time winningest coach in UB history. Sal Esposito currently holds that mark with 109 career wins in 16 seasons of coaching.

Butcher Catching on Fire

Senior Steve Butcher has gotten on an incredible hot streak of late. In the last four games, Butcher has scored seven goals and dished out four assists. He recorded a goal and an assist in a 3-0 win at Delaware, both goals in a 2-1 win at Northern Illinois, two goals and two assists in a 5-1 win at Western Michigan, and a goal and an assist in a 4-2 win over Long Island. Butcher now leads the team in goals (11), assists (8) and points (30).

Bulls in Regional Rankings

The Bulls 9-3-1 record has gotten some recognition for their success this year in the regional rankings. The Bulls are currently ranked fourth in the New York Region. They have been in the rankings for six consecutive weeks with fourth being their highest ranking.

Butcher, Songer Are A Lethal Combo

Tim Songer and Steve Butcher are close to becoming the most productive scoring tandem in UB history. They currently have a combined 53 points this year (Butcher 30, Songer 23). In 1980, Chris Simon and Mike Gjorgievski combined for 58 points. It marks just the fifth time in school history that two players have recorded 20 or more points in a season and the first time since 1990, when three players reached 20 points.

In addition, the next goal by Songer will give him 10 and make this just the second time in UB history that two players recorded 10 or more goals in the same season. The only other time that happened was in the 1981 season.

Butcher Cracks Century Points Mark

Senior Steve Butcher has basically rewritten the record books in his career at UB and continues to add to his accomplishments. This past weekend he surpassed the 100 point mark for his career.

Butcher now has 109 career points, a UB school record. Butcher already holds the career records for goals scored (53) and this season moved into first in career assists with 19.

He holds the top two spots for goals scored in a season with 18 last year and 16 in 1997. He also has the single season record for points scored with 43 last year, and is third in that same category with 36 points in 1997.

Butcher, Songer Moving Up Charts

UB has had a player score 30 points in one season just five times in the programs history. With his 30 points this season, Steve Butcher has now hit that mark three of those five times. He holds the record with 43 points last season, the only 40-point season in UB history.

Tim Songer is not far behind with 23 points this year, 8th best total for a season in UB history. If Songer reaches 30 points it will be the first time two players have hit 30 or more points in the same season.

Players Stepping Up

In the absence of defenders Joe Peplinski and Matt Yeates due to injuries, several players have stepped up to fill the gap on defense. Jarek Radzinski has moved into the sweeper position and Perry Duronio, Kevin Pitra and John Shannon have all moved back to help solidify the defense. These players have filled in well as UB has given up just four goals in the last five games.

MAC Standings

Defending conference champion Akron and Kentucky both lead the MAC with a 3-0-0 conference record. Buffalo is second in the conference with a 2-1-0 mark and Marshall is next at 2-1-1. The Bulls have the best overall record in the conference at 9-3-1.
