UB Wins Third Straight

Butcher Scores Twice to Lead Bulls

DeKALB, IL - The University at Buffalo men's soccer team picked up their first MAC victory of the season with a 2-1 win at Northern Illinois, extending their winning streak to three-straight games.

UB got on the board first as Steve Butcher (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) was taken down in the box by the NIU goalie. Butcher then converted on the penalty shot for the early Buffalo lead. Northern Illinois would come back to tie the game early in the second half, scoring in the 47th minute.

Butcher would then add the game winner in the 73rd minute. Chris Vinci (Buffalo, NY/St. Joseph's) stole an errant pass and fed the ball to Butcher who had a one-on-one against the Huskie goalie. Butcher knocked it in from 14-yards out to seal the 2-1 Bulls win. Butcher recorded his sixth and seventh goals of the season.

Goalkeeper Justin Deming (Ballston Spa, NY/Burnt Hills) recorded six saves on the day as the Huskies outshot the Bulls 30-17.

UB improves to 7-3-1 on the season and 1-1 in the MAC. The Bulls will next play at Western Michigan on Sunday afternoon.
