The University at Buffalo men’s soccer team played the catch-up game early in Friday afternoon’s Mid-American Conference match with Bowling Green. The Falcons took the early lead by netting the game’s first goal in the first two minutes of the game. With the goal, Bowling Green became the first team this season to score in the first half on the Bulls. Despite giving up the quickie, Buffalo battled back to net two goals before the end of the half to secure the conference win. Senior Andrae Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica/DeWitt Clinton) and junior Dan Stevens (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) were credited with the scores, with senior Brian Knapp (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) picking up the assist on both goals.
In the team’s second away match of the weekend, the Bulls were shut out by reigning Big Ten champion Penn State Sunday afternoon by a count of 3-0. Buffalo contested with the Nittany Lions for much of the game, but were unable to put one in the net. PSU was led by M.A.C. Hermann Trophy candidate Simon Omekanda who blasted two goals in the shutout win. Senior Daniel Bell (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame) and freshman Robert Shuttleworth (Tonawanda, NY/Nichols) split time in net for the Bulls, making three combined saves.
