UB Suffers 3-0 Setback To Big Ten Opponent Penn State
Buffalo (8-4-1) contested with the reigning Big Ten champion Nittany Lions (4-7-2) in the majority of the first half, with both teams playing well on both ends of the field. Penn State held the edge in the shot category 7-1 in the first 45 minutes, finding quality shot opportunities, one in which boosted them into the lead at the 36:20 mark with a goal from Simon Omekanda. Omekanda would follow up with an encore performance eleven minutes later with his second goal of the match. A third goal by Jeff Chambers in the 71st minute put the game out of reach and captured its fourth win of the year.
The Bulls managed three shots on goal in the hard-fought match, and made impressive attempts in the second half to post a goal and avoid its second shutout loss of the year. Seniors Andrae Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica/DeWitt Clinton), Braden Byler (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) and sophomore Dan Gwyther (London, England/Woodcote) would be the three players to test Penn State's Conrad Taylor. Taylor made three saves in the shutout win, while senior goalkeeper Daniel Bell (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame) allowed two goals and made two saves in 69:08 minutes in net.
The Bulls return home to UB Stadium, where they will face Mid-American Conference rival Western Michigan on Fri., October 13 for a 5 p.m. showdown. Buffalo leads the all-time series 4-1-3, holding a slight edge in goal differential, 16-7.
