Men's Soccer Snaps Losing Streak

UB Scores Twice in One Minute for 2-1 Win

RADFORD, VA - After three-straight shutout losses, the UB men's soccer team scored all the goals they would need in less than a minute of play to record a 2-1 win at Radford, ending a three-game skid.

The Highlanders got on the board late in the first half as Jason Hellings scored in the 42nd minute to put Radford on top 1-0 going into halftime. UB came out in the second half with some pressure, and then stuck quickly midway through the second half. Kevin Pitra (Solon, OH/Solon) was open on the far post and scored off a corner kick from James Collins (Somerset, England) to tie the game at 1-1 at the 59:11 mark. The Bulls would strike again less then a minute later as Brian McCallion (Ballston Spa, NY/Shenendehowa) would steal a pass in the midfield and take it down for an unassisted goal and give UB the 2-1 lead on his first goal of the season.

Radford would fight back with several opportunities to tie the game. The best chance for the Highlanders came at the 84:26 mark when Scott Hance was awarded a penalty kick, but UB goalkeeper Adam Werth (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) stuffed the shot with a great save and preserved the 2-1 victory.

Buffalo improves to 4-5-1 on the season and finishes up the end of an 11-game road stretch to start the season by hosting Kentucky next weekend in its first home game of the year. The Bulls will play the Wildcats in a Mid-American Conference contest on Friday, October 13, at 3 pm, and will be looking for their first MAC win of the season.
