Geoff Thompson (Clarence, NY/Clarence) got the Bulls on the board first when he chipped the ball in from five yards out at the 39:30 mark to give UB a 1-0 lead. It was Thompson's fourth goal of the season and snapped a five-game scoring drought. Freshman Michael Battiste (Rexford, NY/Niskayuna) recorded his first career assist on the play.

The contest remained tight and heated until the 85th minute when Mike Peplinski (Syracuse, NY/Liverpool) placed the ball into the upper right corner of the goal on a free kick to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead.

Peplinski's goal, his fourth of the season, proved to be the game-winner as Marshall's Brent Sobczak scored with :11 seconds remaining in the game to spoil Chris Vavrina's (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford Sutherland) first career shutout. Vavrina made seven saves to earn his first win of the season.

With the win, the Bulls improve to 4-5-1 overall and level their conference mark at 1-1. Marshall drops to 4-6-0 overall and 1-1 in the MAC.
