BUFFALO, NY – AFA (Athletes For Athletes) was in full effect Friday night, supporting their UB men's soccer team and witnessing a 2-1 victory against Canisius. The crowd of 650 plus grew louder and louder as the game went on, only to chant victory at the contest's conclusion.

The game was physical right from the get-go, as each team volleyed back and forth in fouls. Both teams combined for 39 fouls and five yellow cards were distributed. The Bulls battled back agressively by maintaining possession in Canisius' end of the field for a majority of the game. Junior Andrae Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica/DeWitt Clinton) converted off a shot deflection from Canisius goalkeeper Pat Owcarz, to score the first goal of the game in the first 15 minutes of play. Senior Greg Galemore (Rochester, NY/West Morris Central) picked up the assist on score.

A minute and a half later in the first half, Clarke hurried the offense down the field, dishing off to Galemore. Galemore found sophomore Lee Catchpole (Norwich, England/Bungay) who tapped the ball to the lower left side and trickled past the goalkeeper. Clarke's assist gives him ten on the season, which breaks the UB record for most assists in a season.

The game resumed in the second half only to find the same results as in the first. Both teams had difficulties playing soundly, picking up many fouls in the process. Canisius was able to find the back of the net when Matt Rath let loose a shot past Bulls goalkeeper Daniel Bell (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame) and into the right corner of the net. The score being 2-1 with 6:40 remaining, the Golden Griffins were fired up and looking for that equalizer. Canisius made sub after sub to stop the clock, but it was not enough.

UB won the shooting matchup by a 20-8 margin. Clarke and Galemore combined for seven shots. Bulls goalkeeper Daniel Bell earned the win stopping five shots, while Canisius goalkeeper Pat Owcarz had seven saves.

The Bulls travel to Boston University on Sunday at 2 pm, to close out the week. They return to UB Stadium Friday, Oct. 7 for their first MAC matchup against nationally-ranked Akron at 7 pm.
