Bulls Held Scoreless Against St. Francis (PA), 1-0
Team loses first game of the season
 Greg Galemore |
BUFFALO, NY – The UB men's soccer team experienced its first defeat of the season Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 shutout by St. Francis (PA). The Red Flash landed on top early in the first half and never looked back as the Bulls battled tough to avoid being shut out for the first time this season.
The play was physical from the get-go, as both teams racked up 26 fouls between them. Red Flash midfielder Donnie Montoya knocked in the game's only goal, as he headed the ball in after being fed by Bryan Maguire on an indirect kick. The lone goal at the 7:08 mark kept the Bulls from extending their winning ways. The Bulls fought back in the second half, but a strong defensive stand by the Red Flash prevented it.
 Andrae Clarke |
Sophomore Lee Catchpole (Norwich, England/Bungay), junior Andrae Clarke (Kingston, Jamaica/DeWitt Clinton) and senior Greg Galemore (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) led the Bulls on offense with three shots apiece. Red Flash goalkeeper Bobby Pipech had five saves to pitch his third straight consecutive shutout, while the Bulls goalkeeper Daniel Bell (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame) had five saves as well.
The Bulls match up at home against Canisius on Friday at 7 pm, then visit Boston University on Sunday at 3 pm.
