Bulls Fall 3-0 In Heavy RainBUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to Niagara University in the heavy rain on Tuesday evening. The loss is the second straight for the Bulls, after going unbeaten in the previous four matches. Buffalo falls to 3-3-1 overall while Niagara improves to 2-5-1 on the season. Niagara's Jeffrey Boyle opened the scoring 6:22 into the game when he slipped the ball past Buffalo goalkeeper Brian Wozniak (Canton, MI/Plymouth Salem) to give the Purple Eagles the 1-0 lead. The score stood until Niagara's Chris Eyring increased the Bulls deficit by two goals just 1:24 after the whistle sounded to begin the second half. However, despite a two-goal hole and the continuing downpour of rain, Buffalo didn't quit. The Bulls stepped up the offensive pressure on Niagara goalkeeper Sean Supler firing ten second-half shots and collecting seven corner kicks but the Bulls still couldn't manage to get on the board. Niagara added the game's final goal in the 70th minute as Boyle picked up his second tally of the game. Wozniak had three saves in goal for Buffalo. UB outshot Niagara, 12-7, and held a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Bulls are off until Sunday, September 30, when they host Bowling Green at 2:30 p.m. in
a Mid-American Conference matchup. The game will be the second game of a UB soccer
doubleheader. The women's soccer team will take on Ball State in the first game beginning at 12 noon. |
