BUFFALO, NY – Junior goalkeeper Dan Bell (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame) continued his steadfast climb in the Mid-American Conference world as he was honored Wednesday as MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week for his achievements on the field as well as in the classroom.

A political science major, Bell has maintained a 3.503 GPA while studying at UB. The MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a male or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well on the field during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference’s faculty athletic representatives.

Bell was also honored as the MAC Player of the Week for his play in goal, putting forth a tremendous effort towards keeping the Bulls atop as one of three teams left in the nation that have won all of their games to date. His two back-to-back shutouts in last weekend's Georgia Southern Kick-off Classic garnered him much attention as one of the top goaltenders in the MAC. He leads the nation in wins and has four shutouts on the season to lead the MAC. Bell is averaging a goals against average of 0.57.

Bell is one of many UB players who are contributing to the team's overal success this season. According to the NSCAA/adidas regional rankings released Tuesday, the University at Buffalo men's soccer team moved up two spots and is now ranked third in the New York region behind nationally-ranked St. John's and Binghamton.

The team travels to regionally-ranked Colgate Friday at 7pm, then host St. Francis (PA) Sunday at 2pm.
