Lee Catchpole Named MAC Player of the Week
BUFFALO, NY - Lee Catchpole (Norwich, England/Bungay), a freshman forward on the University at Buffalo men's soccer team, earned Mid-American Conference Player of the Week honors for the week of September 13-19. The Bulls went 3-0 last week and Catchpole scored the game-winning goals in both Friday's game at Rider and Sunday's game at St. Francis (PA). Catchpole is the first men's soccer player to win the award since Bill Norberg took the honor after helping the team defeat nationally-ranked Marshall in 2001. On Friday night, with an assist already to his credit, Catchpole was awarded a penalty shot 2:56 into the second overtime. Catchpole was able to connect and give the Bulls their fifth victory of the season. Two days later, Catchpole scored goals ten minutes apart in the first half to lead UB to a 4-2 victory over St. Francis (PA). He scored the Bulls' second goal of the day on a header into the upper corner and scored, what proved to be the game winning goal, on a breakaway. Catchpole is currently tied for first on the team with eight points and second on the team in
goals with three. Catchpole and the rest of the Bulls will put their undefeated record on the line Wednesday
at Niagara starting at 4:00 pm. |
