Men's Soccer Edged By AkronBUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to the University of Akron in the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams on Friday night. Buffalo's loss snapped a four-game unbeaten streak, its longest since the 1999 season. Akron (1-3-1, 1-0-0 MAC) scored the lone goal of the game when Tim Cooper raced down the left sideline after a Torbjorn Birkeland pass and perfectly placed a shot just under the crossbar from outside the box 24:56 into the first half. The goal proved to be the winner as the Bulls couldn't manage to beat Akron's goalkeeper Kyle Milligan.
Buffalo (3-2-1, 0-1-0 MAC) had two strong opportunities to tie the game with under two minutes left in the second half but both of sophomore Mike Geller's (Gardiner, NY/New Paltz) shots were knocked aside by Milligan. Six different players recorded shots for the Bulls with Geller and sophomore Brandon Myrie (Dix Hill, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) finishing with two each. Akron held a slight advantage in shots (10-8) and had two more coner kicks than the Bulls (6-4). Buffalo will remain home for its next three games as they host Niagara on September 25 (7 p.m.), Bowling Green on September 30 (2:30 p.m.), and Marshall on October 7 (7 p.m.).
