BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo men's soccer team played their 2009 home opening contest with strong ball possession leading to a victory over Cleveland State, 1-0. Sophomore Nick Fetterman tied his career record of six saves, capturing his third shutout of the season while Dan Bulley broke the scoreless contest with a header.

With the Bulls on an offensive attack off a deep ball by Alex Marrello, Ian McGimsey stormed towards the far left corner of the field with a Viking trailing him and the ball rolling towards the backline. McGimsey's hustle kept the play alive as he sent an arching cross in front of the net to an aerial Bulley, who pounded the ball under the post to break the scoreless contest in the 77th minute of play.

The Bulls held a 18-14 shot advantage over the Vikings with the game remaining scoreless through close to 77 minutes of play.

The Bulls' strong ball possession throughout the contest allowed them to control the tempo of the game. "Cleveland State plays a quick counter when they are able to scoop up any loose balls and I believe we were able recapture possession from them on these plays," said head coach John Astudillo.

"It was a well-focused effort on our part. Our effort was shown in our ability to hold the lead for the remaining time once we captured it," added Astudillo.

The Bulls (3-2-0, 0-0-0 MAC) will remain at home as they return to action on Tuesday, September 22 at 7:30 pm when they open Mid-American Conference play against Hartwick.
