Buffalo Stumbles Against Niagara

Bulls drop 2-1 decision to the Purple Eagles

NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, NY - The Buffalo men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 2-1 decision to cross-town rival Niagara at Niagara University on Wednesday afternoon.

A foul plagued first half, indicative of the intensity of this rivalry, ended in a 1-1 tie thanks to some impressive individual displays by both teams. Niagara's Ricky Fleck opened the scoring at the 2:28 mark, with a beautiful header off of Chris Seale's corner kick. The Bulls drew even when Patrick Beckley (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) drove down the left side, cut to the middle and fed an open Greg Galemore (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) who was able to chip one over the sprawling reach of goalie Dan O'Shea for his first career goal. On a ball struck from 40 yards out, Purple Eagle defender Paul Vanden Boomen's swooped in from the left box and headed the ball into the far corner of the net. The goal, notched in the 82nd minute, secured the win for Niagara.

In an evenly played match, both goalies made several big saves. Buffalo's Brian Wozniak (Canton, MI/Plymouth Salem) finished with five saves while O'Shea totaled six.

The loss drops the Bulls to 2-3-1 overall on the season. Niagara picks up its first victory, improving to 1-4-0. The Bulls will continue on the road and play at Siena on Friday.
