BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's soccer team dismantled local rival Canisius Sunday afternoon, 4-0, extending a streak of four straight wins while finishing the past week at an impressive 3-0-0 record.

The Bulls (5-2-1) scored a season-high fourteen points, led by sophomore striker Jon Martin (Syracuse, NY/Westhill) who came off the bench to net two goals late in the second half, putting the game out of reach for the Golden Griffins (1-3-1). The two goals were Martin's first of his Buffalo career and marked the second straight game in which a UB player had scored its first collegiate goal.

Having not scored in the first half for the third consecutive game, senior Brian Knapp (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) broke the tie with his first goal of the season at the 50th minute. Knapp blasted the ball past the Canisius goalkeeper off a header from junior Lee Catchpole (Norwich, England/Bungay) and a crossing play from junior Dan Stevens (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool). Fellow senior Kevin Balkanloo (Hudson, OH/Hudson) would be the second Bull to score in the match, becoming the second Bull in Sunday's game to score his first career goal. Balkanloo hammered home the rebound after Canisius goalkeeper Pat Owarcz managed to save senior Andrae Clarke's (Kingston, Jamaica/DeWitt Clinton) header off of a free kick.

With the game coming to a close, Martin would add two insurance goals, as the Bulls managed to out-shoot the Golden Griffins 11-3 in the second half and win the corner kick battle by a count of 5-1. Junior Lucas Martorana (Warren, Ohio/Howland) got in on the scoring game with his first assist of the year on Martin's first goal., while freshman Matthew Contino (Buffalo, NY/St. Joseph's) converted on his first two assists of his Buffalo career, assisting on both of Martin's goals.

Buffalo put ten shots on net, enabling the offense to score in numbers. Senior goalkeeper Daniel Bell (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame) made two saves in booking his third consecutive shutout for his fourth win of the year, while goalkeeper Pat Owarcz made six saves for the Griffs.

The Bulls next host Duquesne (3-2-1) at UB Stadium on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7:00 p.m.
