BUFFALO, NYSophomore Lee Catchpole (Norwich, England/Bungay) led the way for the traveling UB men's soccer team Saturday with two goals, as they began the opening day of the 2005 Kick-off Classic by blanking Centenary 7-0. This is the Bulls' third shutout in six games.

Catchpole scored his first goal early in the contest with an assist from senior Greg Galemore (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) shortly after the first goal of the game scored by junior Brian Knapp (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool). Knapp fired a shot off a UB corner kick by Galemore that found its way to the back of the net at the 6:42 mark. The goal was Knapp's third game-winning goal this year.

The second half featured a similar offensive effort, with the Bulls scoring four additional goals. Freshman Marc Stencel (Cheektowaga, NY/Cheektowaga) and junior Sola Abolaji (Denver, CO/Eagle Crest) recorded their first career goals back-to-back within two minutes of each other. Clark picked up an assist in both goals while senior Matt Stuczynski (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep). Junior Braden Byler (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) chipped in his first goal of the season, as he went down the field after a feed from Galemore into a one-on-one with Centenary goalkeeper Donnie Henderson, ultimately putting the ball past him. Catchpole capped off the afternoon's pummeling with a shot to the right side after Byler passed him the ball with under four minutes remaining in the matchup. He now leads the team in goals with five, and in points with 13.

The Bulls (6-0-0) excelled in outshooting the Gents (0-5-0) 21-5. Junior goalkeeper Dan Bell (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame) pitched the shut out with two saves, while Gents goalkeeper Donnie Henderson had nine saves.

In the later game, Georgia Southern (3-1-1) defeated Western Illinois 3-1 that featured a 1-1 tie until Patrick O’Brien netted the game-winner for the Georgia Southern Eagles.

UB rides this win into Sunday, where they will play Western Illinois (1-4-1) at 11am in Statesboro, GA, to conclude the 2005 Kick-off Classic.
