Gwyther "Making An Impact" For UB

England native honored among top freshmen in the nation

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo men's soccer freshman Dan Gwyther (London, England/Woodcote) was honored recently by College Soccer News as one of the top freshmen "making an impact" in Division-I soccer during week two of the season. It was announced on their website Thursday.

He is one of 26 freshmen players honored this week, as he had an assist in UB's 3-0 shutout against Siena Sunday. Gwyther has played a crucial role in UB's early success as his team has come out of the gates blazing with a 5-0-0 record. Having started in each of Buffalo's five games this season, his relentless hustle and on-field leadership has helped his team gain notoreity in Division-I soccer as one of only 15 unbeaten teams left in the nation.

Gwyther, along with the defensive unit of seniors Matt Stuczynski (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep), Mbwana Johnson (San Fernando, Trinidad/Pleasantville), and junior Dave Chojnowski (Rochester, NY/Hilton) have played like a brick wall, having shut out two of their last five opponents and allowing an average of five shots per game. Thus far, the Bulls have outscored their opponents 17-4.

The Bulls play back-to-back games this weekend, as they compete in the Georgia Southern Tournament in Statesboro, GA. They will play Centenary (0-4-0), who have struggled to find the net after not having scored a goal yet this season, on Sat., Sept. 17. The next day, the Bulls finish their weekend with Western Illinois (1-3-0) on Sun., Sept. 18., who won their first game of the season on Wednesday.
