Buffalo Golden Against Griffs

Bulls use a 1-0 shutout to defeat cross-town rival

BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo men's soccer team remained undefeated on the season by shutting out Canisius, 1-0, on Wednesday night at the Demske Sports Complex. Sophomore goalkeeper Daniel Bell (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame) earned his fourth shutout of the season, by making one save on the night.

Jeff Martinko (Shelby Township, MI/DeLaSalle Collegiate) scored the only goal of the game in the 32nd minute of action. He received a pass from Erik Jaanimagi (Henrietta, NY/Rush Henrietta) at the top of the box and put it in the righthand corner past the Griff's goalkeeper. The goal was Martinko's third of the year, tying him for the team lead.

Canisius struggled offensively, but was given a solid effort by goalkeeper Adam Sleyzak who had three saves in the game. With the loss, Canisius drops to 1-5-0 on the season.

The Bulls' defense has continued to be spectacular, allowing only one goal through the team's first five games. With the win, the Bulls (4-0-1) are off to their best start since the 1998 season when they won their first five games in a row. The Bulls will continue their five-game road trip on Friday afternoon at Rider beginning at 4:00 pm.
