UB Drops Two in California

UB traveled to play at the UC Irvine Tournament this past weekend and opened up against host Anteaters and then faced Cal State Fullerton. In the opening game, UC Irvine jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half before the Bulls cut into the lead early in the second half. John Shannon (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) scored the Buffalo goal to make it a 2-1 game just three minutes into the second half. The Anteaters responded with a goal ten mintues later to secure the 3-1 win.

In the second game of the tournament, the Bulls squared off against 18th-ranked Cal State Fullerton. The Titans scored twice in each half, and cruised to a 4-1 win over UB. Buffalo got its lone goal late in the second half from Matt Yeates (Kenmore, NY/St. Joseph's), who scored his first career goal, and cut the lead to 2-1 before Fullerton added two more goals for the win.

Bulls Beat Canisius in Overtime

UB defeated cross-town rival Canisius 2-1 in overtime in a midweek matchup. Tim Songer (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) scored Buffalo's first goal just ten minutes into the game. Canisius came back to tie the game at 1-1 shortly before halftime. Both teams went scoreless in the second half, forcing overtime. Chris Vinci (Buffalo, NY/St. Joseph's) came through for the Bulls in the extra time, scoring the game-winning goal in the 93rd minute for the 2-1 Bulls win.

Wozniak Records Shutout

Sophomore goalkeeper Brian Wozniak (Canton, MI/Plymouth Salem) played an outstanding game between the pipes in the season-opener against Central Connecticut State. Wozniak recorded a career-best 14 saves in the game in helping UB hold on for a 2-0 victory. Those 14 saves matched his career saves total going into the season. It was the first non-combined shutout for Wozniak in his career. He had two combined shutouts last season, playing one half in each of those games, but played the full 90 minutes against CCSU.

UB to Host Conference Tournament

The tournament will feature quarterfinal and semifinal rounds, with the final game being played at the highest remaining seed.
