Men’s Soccer Trounces Valpo, 5-1
Clarke’s performance marked the team’s first individual hat trick since UB’s all-time scoring leader, Steve Butcher, scored three goals against Canisius on Sept. 16, 1998.
Clarke was the first Bull to light up the scoreboard, converting on a header off a corner kick in the 22nd minute from fellow senior Brian Knapp (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) that found its way into the near corner of the net. Clarke’s second goal of the match would come eight minutes later, scoring on a shot deflected off a Valpo defender. The first half would end with a third Bull goal from senior Braden Byler (Erie, PA/Cathedral Prep) for his second goal of the season. Winning the shot battle 8-5 in the first half, the Bulls would tack on a fourth straight goal coming from junior Lee Catchpole (Norwich, England/Bungay), netting his first goal of the season off a free kick rebound opportunity. After a Valparaiso goal from Mark Wolka in the 73rd minute, Buffalo answered back with Clarke’s third goal of the match, converting on a penalty kick to seal the win on his first career hat trick.
UB out-shot the Crusaders 18-11, including a 13-7 edge on goal for its highest scoring game of the season. Senior Daniel Bell (Brampton, Ontario/Notre Dame) allowed one goal and made five saves, lowering his goals against average percentage to 0.69.
The Bulls complete their three-game road trip on Wednesday, as they take on Cornell in Ithaca, NY Wednesday. The game is set to start at 7:00 pm. |
