Men's Soccer Loses to 14th Ranked Fullerton

Cal-State Fullerton Defeats Bulls 4-1

FULLERTON, CA - The University at Buffalo men's soccer team played one of the best teams in the country Sunday afternoon, and found out why the Titans are ranked in the top-20. Cal-State Fullerton scored two goals in each half to defeat UB 4-1 in the last day of the UC Irvine Tournament.

Roy Ramirez started the scoring with a goal for the Titans in the 16th minute of play. Fullerton would add a second goal just before the end of the first half on a goal by Shaun Higgins in the 43rd minute for a 2-0 halftime lead.

The Bulls would get on the board late in the second half of play and cut the Fullerton lead in half. Matt Yeates (Kenmore, NY/St. Joseph's) would score his first goal of the season in the 76th minute to make it a 2-1 game. For Yeates, who missed all of last season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament, it was his first career goal at UB as well. Fullerton then ended any hopes of a Bulls upset when the Titans netted two more goals in the final ten minutes. Art Ramirez scored in the 80th minute and three minutes later, Ricky Melendez a goal for the 4-1 final.

Fullerton outshot UB 24-6 on the game and UB goalkeeper Brian Wozniak (Canton, MI/Plymouth Salem) recorded two saves in the game as well.

The Bulls, now 2-2 on the season, will be in action again this weekend when they travel to play at Siena on Friday, September 15, and at Long Island on September 17.
