Men's Soccer Claims 1-0 VictoryBUFFALO, NY - Senior Bill Norberg (Allison Park, PA/Shaler) blasted a pass from junior Dan Wielechowski (Canton, MI/Plymouth Salem) past the Central Connecticut State University goalkeeper with 6:54 left in regulation to give the University at Buffalo men's soccer team (2-1) a 1-0 victory over the Blue Devils (1-2) in the Bulls Fall Classic at RAC Field on Saturday afternoon.
With the victory, University at Buffalo head coach John Astudillo ties former UB coach Sal Esposito as the winningest coach in the program's history. Astudillo has now accumulated 109 victories (98 losses) over his thirteen years as a head coach of the Bulls while Esposito collected 109 (105 losses) in 16 seasons. No other coach in Bulls' history has more than seven victories. Buffalo's Brian Wozniak (Canton, MI/Plymouth Salem) earned the shutout in goal, making eight stops. Jeff Brunetti had five saves between the pipes for Central Connecticut. The Blue Devils held a slight advantage in shots (13-12), in a physical game on both sides of the ball. Earlier in the first game of the tournament, Siena (1-1-1) defeated Canisius (1-2) by a score of 4-1. Siena's Kevin Purcell gave the Saints an early lead with a goal 8:03 into the game. Siena then added three more goals in the second half before Canisius spoiled the shutout for Ryan Jordan with a goal by Brad Kenny at the 86:31 mark. The 2001 Bulls Fall Classic will continue on Sunday, September 9, as Canisius College matches up with Central Connecticut State at 11:30 a.m. followed by UB and Siena at 2:30 p.m. |
