Men's Soccer Beats Sacred Heart, 2-1NEW BRITAIN, CT - The Buffalo men's soccer team earned its first victory of the season by defeating Sacred Heart, 2-1, at the Central Connecticut Tournament on Sunday. The Bulls got a pair of first half goals from Geoff Thompson (Clarence, NY/Clarence) and Mike Peplinski (Syracuse, NY/Liverpool), repectively, to lead UB. Thomspon's goal, his second of the season, came at the 32:22 mark and was assisted by Dave Pidgeon (Dorval, PQ/Bishop Whelan) and Jason Seymour (Glenmont, NY/Bethlehem). Peplinski's goal came just three minutes later when he scored on a penalty kick. Sacred Heart forward Franco Cartiera scored the Pioneers' lone goal on a penalty kick in the 82nd minute. Senior goalkeeper Brian Wozniak (Canton, MI/Plymouth Salem) made five saves to picked up his first win of the year. The Bulls are now 1-0-1 on the season. They will next play Bucknell in the opening game of
the Bulls Fall Invitational on Sept. 7 at RAC Field. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. |
