Fetterman and Mihal Earn Academic All-MAC Recognition

Pair honored for success on the field and in the classroom

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo sophomore Nick Fetterman and senior Alex Mihal were named to the Men's Soccer Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team. The 12-member team was announced by the league office in Cleveland, OH on Thursday afternoon.

Fetterman, a civil engineering major with a 3.606 GPA, started in 13 contests this season, compiling a 6-6-1 overall record. The North Tonawanda native registered a 1.39 GAA to finish fifth in the conference. The sophomore also finished fifth in the MAC in save percentage (.743) and saves (52). Fetterman's four shutouts this season, placed him in a tie for fourth in the MAC. In the Bulls' 2-1 double-overtime season finale victory at Western Michigan, Fetterman recorded a career-high ten saves.

Alex Mihal

Mihal, a management major with a 3.862 GPA, started in all 16 contests he appeared in this season. As a solid all-around player, the defender provided the Bulls with a strong presence on the backline while creating pressure up front. In the Bulls' season opener, the senior scored the game-winning goal for his first career goal in the opening round of the West Virginia University/Nike Classic against Pittsburgh. For his efforts, Mihal would be named to the West Virginia University/Nike Classic All-Tournament Team. In his four-year career, Mihal started in 29 of the 47 games he appeared in.

Fetterman's and Mihal's selections continue the Bulls' streak of having at least one player being named to the Men's Soccer Academic All-MAC Team since the 2000-01 season.

To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered. The Academic All-MAC team is voted on by the league’s faculty athletic representatives.
