BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo men's soccer player Dan Gwyther has been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team. The league announced its 12-member team from the MAC's headquarters in Cleveland earlier this week.

Gwyther, a management major with a 3.66 grade point average, finished the 2008 campaign second on the team in scoring with 11 points, netting four goals and three assists in 20 games. The senior defender has anchored a UB backline that posted 10 shutouts and just 13 goals (0.65 per game). Gwyther also led the team with three game-winning goals. During the 2008 season, the Bulls put together a streak of 680 consecutive minutes over a nine-game span without allowing a goal.

For his efforts on the field in 2008, Gwyther was named to the All-MAC first-team and the MAC's all-tournament squad. This is his second appearance on the Academic All-MAC list after also being selected following the 2007 season. Gwyther was also recognized earlier this season with a spot on the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I University Division Men’s Soccer Second Team.

In his four-year career, Gwyther played in 70 games, starting all but one, and scored six goals and six assists. His 2008 goal and assist tallies are season-best marks in both categories.

The Bulls finished the 2008 season with a 12-4-4 record and were 3-1-2 in the MAC.
