Bulls Soccer Ties EMUThe University at Buffalo men's soccer team opened its 1997 season with a 1-1 tie against Mid-American Conference (MAC)-member Eastern Michigan University Friday night in the second game of the 1997 UB Fall Classic. The EMU Eagles got on the board first when junior forward Mo Hijazi scored off a pass from junior midfielder Diego Alvarez at 26 minutes. After several unsuccessful scoring attempts late in the first half, the Bulls finally put one in the EMU net when senior midfielder Tim Merrick (Clinton, MD/Surrattsville) dribbled around two Eagle defenders and fired the ball into the far side of the goal at 59:02. The game was a tight defensive throughout with both teams combining for only 15 shots on goal. York University, behind the hat trick of junior midfielder Michel D'Angelo, defeated Brock University 3-1 in the tournament's first game. The UB Fall Classic wraps up on Saturday (8/30) with two games. Eastern Michigan will face York at 1:00 pm in the first game, while the University at Buffalo will play Brock at 5:30 pm. All games are at RAC Field on the Amherst campus of the University at Buffalo. Admission for everyone is free. |
