Bulls Men's Soccer Dominates Canisius, 6-0


BUFFALO, NY -- The University at Buffalo Bulls scored two goals in the first half and four in the second half as they defeated Canisius College 6-0 at RAC Field on Wednesday night (9/24). The Bulls outplayed Canisius throughout the contest, firing 15 shots on goal to the Griff's two.

Junior midfielder Frank Butcher (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) opened the scoring at 10:41 when he took a a pass from UB forward Sebastian Zawislan (Brampton, ONT, St. Augustine) and put the ball into the near side of the net, giving the Bulls a 1-0 lead. Freshman forward Brian McCallion (Ballston Spa, NY/Shenendehowa) added to the lead at 26:43 when he gathered a pass from UB's John Shannon and fired the ball into the goal from 20 yards out. The Bulls outshot Canisius 5-2 in the first 45 minutes.

The second half was all UB as sophomore forward Steve Butcher (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) tallied the first of two goals at 58:30 when he slipped a Brian Cruickshank pass behind the Griffs' keeper to give the Bulls a 3-0 lead. A goal by Zawislan on a penalty kick, another by Steve Butcher and freshman forward Chris Vinci (Buffalo, NY/St. Joseph's) with his second goal in as many games, made the final score UB 6, Canisius 0.

The Bulls will now embark on a four-game road trip, beginning on Saturday (9/27) at St. Francis (PA). The next UB home game is Tuesday, October 21st when they host Niagara at 7:00 pm.
