Bulls Earn Weekend Split, Lose to Howard 2-1 in OT, Shutout Central Connecticut 4-0

BUFFALO, NY -- The University at Buffalo Bulls lost a close game Friday night (10/24), losing to Mid-Continent Conference-foe Howard University 2-1 in overtime. Following a scoreless first half, which saw two red cards and seven yellow cards, the Bulls got on the board in the second half when midfielder Joe Peplinski (Syracuse, NY/Liverpool) fired the ball into the Howard goal from 15 yards in front at 74:29. However, less than five minutes later at 78:57, Howard's Mike Lawrence broke in on the UB net after the ball deflected off a Bulls' defender, and scored unassisted to tie the game at one goal apiece. In the overtime, Howard's Greg Simmons fired a deflected header from Ray Fisher into the net for the gamewinner. Howard outshot the Bulls 14-9 for the game.

The University at Buffalo Bulls produced their second-highest goal output of the season as they defeated Central Connecticut State University 4-0 Saturday afternoon (10/26) at RAC Field. With the score 1-0 at the half, the Bulls scored three goals in the second half during an 11-minute span to clinch the win. UB moves to 7-7-1 on the year, while the Blue Devils fall to 7-8-0. The Bulls opened the scoring 21 minutes into the game when junior midfielder Brian Cruickshank (Babylon, NY/St. John the Baptist) scored his first collegiate goal off a direct kick from freshman forward Brian McCallion (Ballston Spa, NY/Shenendehowa) in front of the CCSU net. UB outshot the Blue Devils 6-5 in the first half. Central Connecticut opened the second half with a flurry of offensive pressure, recording several shots on goal. However, senior goalkeeper Christian Barletta (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) kept them off the board with four saves for the day. The Bulls responded with three goals in 11 minutes, triggered by sophomore forward Ernesto Gonzalez's (Orlando, FL/Boone) first collegiate goal off a pass from the right side of the Blue Devil goal from freshman midfielder Jarek Radzinski (Jnowroclaw, POL/Bishop Marrocco). Less than four minutes later, Radzinski sprung senior midfielder Frank Butcher (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) on a breakaway, scoring his fourth goal of the season for a 3-0 UB lead. Sophomore forward Steve Butcher (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) added an unassisted goal at 73:14 to clinch the 4-0 win for the Bulls. CCSU outshot UB 14-12 for the game.
