Shockers Beat Bulls 79-69 for Cessna Classic Championship


The Wichita State Shockers got 23 points from Maurice Evans on 7-of-10 shooting to defeat the University at Buffalo Bulls 79-69 in the championship game of the Cessna Classic Tournament on Monday (12/29) night. The Bulls (7-5) return home for a conference game against Oral Roberts on Saturday (1/3) night in Alumni Arena at 8:20 pm.

Leading 38-35 at the break, Wichita State shot 52.4% (11-of-21) in the second half while limiting UB to 41.7% (10-of-24) shooting. After hitting 4-of-5 shots from three-point range in the first half, the Bulls managed to hit on only two of their seven attempts in the second stanza. The Shockers got 18 points and nine rebounds from forward Darren Williams while guard Terry Hankton added 16 points and four assists. UB was led by senior swingman Rasaun Young with 20 points and five rebounds and senior guard Mike Martinho with 19 points on 7-of-13 (53.8%) shooting, both of which were named to the Cessna Classic All-Tournament team.
