BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo Bulls moved to 5-0 in Mid-Continent Conference play with an 86-84 win over Oral Roberts on Saturday (1/3) night in Alumni Arena. Senior guard Mike Martinho's (Rahway, NJ/Union Catholic) three-pointer with :24 seconds remaining broke a 79-79 tie, and his four free throws down the stretch sealed the win for UB, now 8-5 overall.

Oral Roberts connected on 33-of-65 (50.8%) of their shots for the game. Both teams took advantage of their three-point shooters with the Bulls hitting 9-of-17 (52.9%) of their attempts, while the Golden Eagles shot 50% (8-of-16) from behind the arc. UB took control midway through the first half, taking a 34-27 lead on a Rasaun Young (New Rochelle, NY/New Rochelle) layup. Senior forward Scott McMillin (Wichita KS/Bishop Carroll) led UB with 12 points on 4-of-5 shooting, including 2-of-3 from three-point range. Oral Roberts battled back with a 9-4 run behind Derrick Taylor's 15 points to go into halftime trailing the Bulls by only one at 46-45.

The second half proved to be played even closer than the first with neither team gaining more than a five point advantage at any point. UB opened up a four-point lead early in the period before Oral Roberts gained a four-point lead with 11 minutes left and a five point lead with 6:45 remaining. With 6:33 remaining, the Bulls went on a 10-6 run to take a 79-78 lead with 1:58 left in regulation. After a Golden Eagles' free throw that knotted the score at 79-79, Martinho hit a three-pointer from the left side of the court with :24 seconds left giving the Bulls the lead for good at 82-79. A steal by McMillin and four free throws by Martinho sealed the win for UB, their third in the last four games. Martinho led UB with a season-high 29 points (9-of-13 field goals, 6-of-10 from three-point range), while Young added 23 - 15 in the second half. Martinho and Young teamed to score 36 of the Bulls' 40 second half points, and hit a combined 10 of their 15 field goals (66.7%). The Golden Eagles had all five of their starters score in double figures, led by Taylor's 20 points and eight rebounds.

The Bulls will hit the road on Monday (1/5) when they face Embry-Riddle in Daytona Beach, FL. UB's next home game is Wednesday (1/21) when they host UMKC at 7:50 pm in Alumni Arena.
