UB Holds Off Niagara at Marine Midland Arena

Senior Rasaun Young scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half as UB held off a late Niagara rally for a 62-58 win downtown at the Marine Midland Arena. The Bulls (3-1) overcame a poor second-half shooting performance 36.4% (8-of-22) and 20 points from the Purple Eagles' (1-1) Alvin Young to claim the win. UB has now won the last five meetings with Niagara.

The Purple Eagles hit on only 1-of-6 shots from behind the arc while the Bulls were good on four, including back-to-back treys by Young and senior Scott McMillin with eight minutes remaining that capped a 12-3 Bulls' run.

The second half saw UB go cold from the floor as they hit on only 8-of-22 shots (36.4%) the rest of the game. Young was able to keep Niagara at bay for most of the half, however, as he hit on 4-of-7 shots, including five of the Bulls' first six points. Despite Young's performance, the Purple Eagles rallied from an 11-point deficit with five minutes remaining, going on a 16-6 run to trail by one with :59 seconds left to play. Leading by two with 8.4 second remaining, freshman Nikolai Alexeev blocked Jeremiah Johnson's layup to preserve the win for UB.

The Bulls will return home on Tuesday (12/2) to face Big Four rival Canisius in Alumni Arena at 7:30 pm.
