Frierson, Szczerbiak Lead Miami Past Buffalo

Senior duo combines for 41 points as Redhawks beat Bulls

BUFFALO, NY - All-American Wally Szczerbiak had 20 points and 10 rebounds and Damon Frierson added 21 points on 9-of-15 shooting as Miami of Ohio defeated the University at Buffalo, 76-48, before a season-high 3,014 fans at Alumni Arena.

Szczerbiak, limited to two points in the first half by a stifling Bulls' defense, connected for 18 after the break as the Redhawks (11-3, 6-0 in the Mid-American Conference) pulled away early in the second half.

The Bulls pulled within 35-26 on a bucket by Will Campbell (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy), who had 10 points, with 17:59 remaining in regulation. However, Miami then went on an 18-6 run - including 10 points from Szczerbiak - to take a 53-32 lead and led by double digits the rest of the way.

The Bulls were again led by sophomore forward Nikolai Alexeev (Minsk, Belarus) who had 14 points and five rebounds. Alexeev has been in double figures in four straight games. Senior Nate Johnson (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) had 10 rebounds and four points off the bench.

Buffalo hits the road next week with games at Marshall and Ohio University on Thursday and Saturday before returning home to face St. Bonaventure on Jan. 19.
