Sluggish Start Dooms Bulls In Loss To Kent

Golden Flashes stay in thick of MAC East Division race with 73-51 win

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo spotted Kent a 13-1 lead to start the game and never could recover, dropping a 73-51 Mid-American Conference game to the Golden Flashes at Alumni Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The Bulls (4-20, 0-13) also committed 14 first-half turnovers and went to the locker room trailing 34-21. They twice cut the lead to nine points in the first half - including 26-17 on a layup by Nate Johnson (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) - but could get no closer as Kent (17-5, 10-4) stayed right in the thick of the Mid-American Conference East Division race. The Golden Flashes are 11/2 games behind Miami University in the East Division.

The Golden Flashes extended the lead in the second half to as many as 25 points - 56-31 - on a layup by Andrew Mitchell with 7:30 remaining. Kent had three players in double figures led by Kyrem Massey with 14 points while Trevor Huffman had 11 as did John Whorton.

UB's leading scorer was Maliso Libomi (Malakoff, France) who had a career-high 13 points, including 11 in the first half. Louis Campbell (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) had a career-high six assists for the Bulls.

The Bulls will travel to Toledo take on the West Division leading Rockets on Thursday night.
