Basketball Players Get Academic Recognition


BUFFALO, NY - Two UB basketball players were honored for their off the court performances. Nikolai Alexeev (Minsk, Belarus) from the men's team and Catherine Jacob (Pittsburgh, PA/Penn Hills HS) from the women's team were both named to the MAC All-Academic honorable mention teams.

Alexeev is a sophomore center for the Bulls with a 3.17 grade point average. This past season, he started in 23 games and played in all 29 games for UB. He averaged 9.0 points and 5.0 rebounds per game and was second on the team in three point shooting, hitting 31% (24-for-78) from downtown.

Jacob is a senior that provided leadership for the Bulls this past season as the starting point guard. A mechanical engineering major, Jacob has a 3.79 GPA and was named a District I Academic All-American. This past season, Jacob led the Bulls to a 15-12 record and a sixth place finish in the first year in the MAC. Jacob ended her career at UB as the schools eighth all-time leading scorer with 1,072 points and is the schools all-time assist leader with 571.
