Bulls Lose Buzzer-Beater in Hawaii

KAILUA-KONA, HI- Central Connecticut's Richard Ijeh scored his only bucket of the game, a driving layup with 0:04 left after a steal and gave Central Connecticut a two-point victory over UB in the first game of the Hawaii-Hilo tournament.

Leading by as much as 10 points, 70-60, with 1:41 remaining, the Bulls were outscored 16-4 over that time for the heart breaking loss. Central Connecticut closed the gap in the final minute and a jumper by Victor Payne made it a two-point game, 73-71, with 0:38 left. Alexei Vasiliev (St. Petersburg, Russia) then hit one of two free throws for UB and a three-point lead, but CCSU's Rick Mickens drained a three-pointer with 24-seconds left to tie the game at 74-74. The Bulls then turned it over and Ijeh went down to score the winning bucket.

The Bulls sealed their own fate, as their last field goal of the game came at the 2:58 mark and the team hit just 4-of-8 free throws in the final minute and a half.

The Bulls were led by Louis Campbell (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) who scored a career-high 28 points for UB on 9-of-12 shooting from the field and from the line. He also pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Will Campbell (Elmira, NY/Elmira Free Academy) added 16 points and Vasiliev scored 11 points. Central Connecticut was led by Mickens with 22 points.
