UB Drops Second MAC GameAKRON, OH - The University at Buffalo lost their second straight MAC game, and their fifth straight overall, falling 89-67 at Akron. The Zips used a strong first half to take control of the game early and put the outcome out of reach for UB. Akron connected on 20-of-41 shots in the first half, making three less field goals than the Bulls attempted in the first 20 minutes. UB shot 47.8% (11-of-23) in the first half but could only put up 28 points on the board. Akron led at the break by 24 points, 52-28. The second half was an even contest as UB outscored the Zips 39-37, with both teams hitting over 50% from the field. The Bulls ended the game with a decent offensive shooting effort, hitting 52.0% (26-for-50) from the field for the game. The defensive end didn't compare as the Zips hit 50.8% (32-for-63) from the field for the game. Akron forced 26 UB turnovers on 16 steals by the Zips, which proved to be a big factor in the first half surge by Akron. UB was led in scoring by Rick Fox (Toledo, OH/St. Francis DeSales) with a game-high 18 points off the bench. Starters Damien Foster (Buffalo, NY/Traditional), Nikolai Alexeev (Minsk, Belarus) and Alexei Vasiliev (St. Petersburg, Russia) all had 10 points each for the Bulls. Akron had six players score in double figures as Jimmal Ball, Jami Bosley and John Carson all had 14 points. The Bulls will next be in action after the New Year when they travel to play
at Fairleigh Dickinson on January 2, for their last non-conference game of the
