Men's Basketball Falls to 15th-Ranked North Carolina

Jason Robinson Scored Career-High 21 in Loss

CHAPEL HILL, NC - The University at Buffalo men's basketball team fell to the 15th-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels 95-74 as Jason Capel became just the second UNC player in school history to record a triple-double, recording 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. UNC improved to 6-2 on the season while Buffalo fell to 1-4.

The Bulls were even with UNC in the early going. Damien Foster (Buffalo, NY/Traditional) scored on a fastbreak layup to tie the score at 7-7 two minutes into the game. Jason Robinson (Seattle, WA/Curtis) later hit his second three-pointer in the early going to pull UB within three, 13-10, with 16 minutes left in the half. Carolina then used a 15-3 run over the next six and a half minutes to open up a 15-point lead. The largest lead of the first half would come at the end of the half when a layup by Joseph Forte gave UNC a 46-28 halftime advantage.

The second half was an even battle as the Bulls came out with some intensity and scored the first five points of the second half. Robert Brown (Oak Park, MI/Oak Park) hit two free throws and Robinson hit another three pointer in the first minute and a half. UNC responded as Kris Lang scored three-straight buckets to net six of his 22 points and push the lead up to 52-33. The Bulls kept their composure and never backed down in the second half, matching each UNC run with one of their own. UB was only outscored by three points, 49-46, in the second half. The Bulls shot 50% (16-for-32) in the second half, and hit 5-of-8 (.625) from three-point range in the half. The first half deficit, however, was too much to overcome and the Bulls suffered a 95-74 defeat.

The Bulls were led by Jason Robinson, who hit 8-of-13 from the field and 5-of-7 from three-point range for a career-high 21 points. Damien Foster added 15 points and Robert Brown had 14 points and a team-high six rebound for the Bulls. Louis Campbell (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) added 13 points and a season-high eight assists for UB. For the Tar Heels, Joseph Forte had a game-high 23 points and seven rebounds and Kris Lang added 22 points. Jason Capel recorded 16 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists, joining teammate Brendan Haywood, who recorded a triple-double earlier this season, as the only UNC players in school history to record a triple-double.

Buffalo (1-4) will next travel to the South Florida Shootout Tournament later this week. UB will face Eastern Illinois on Thursday, December 21, at 9pm, and then face either Alcorn State or South Florida on Friday, December 22.
