Mark Bortz Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

Senior forward averaged 22.5 points and seven rebounds for the week

CLEVELAND, OH - Mark Bortz (Commerce Township, MI/Walled Lake Central) was named the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week on Dec. 14. Last week, Bortz came off the bench to average 22.5 points, seven rebounds and 1.5 blocked shots in wins over Elon and Niagara.

In the Bulls’ 95-92 double-overtime win over Niagara, Bortz tallied a career-high 32 points and grabbed a season-high 13 rebounds. Against Elon, Bortz scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half and overtime to help lead the Bulls to the road win.

This is the first time that the senior forward has been named the MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week.

A business management major, Bortz sports a 3.416 grade point average. He was a member of the 2003-04 Academic All-MAC team.
