North Texas Shoots Down UB

Hot Shooting Buries Bulls

BLOOMINGTON, IN - In the consolation game of the Indiana Classic, North Texas used some tremendous outside shooting early in the game to defeat UB 102-91. The Mean Green also held off a couple of late runs by UB for the win.

North Texas shot 54.1% from the field in the first half, including 9-of-18 from three-point range to jump out to a big lead against the Bulls. UNT led 19-6 in the first six minutes of the game, forcing UB to call its first timeout. The Bulls responded and cut the lead down to three points, 26-23, on a layup by Jon Kleidon (Oak Park, IL/River Forest) with eight minutes left in the half. North Texas came back and used a couple of big runs to push the lead to as many as 19 points and led by 12 points, 54-42, at the half.

UB came out with three new starters for the second half and quickly cut into the lead, using a 10-2 run to open the second half and make it a six-point game. A three-pointer by Rick Fox (Toledo, OH/St. Francis DeSales) at the 13:11 mark cut the lead to just three points, 63-60. North Texas used a 7-0 run a few minutes later to extend their lead to 13 points, 77-64, with eight minutes left. The Bulls would continue to fight back and a three-pointer from Alexei Vasiliev (St. Petersburg, Russia) cut the lead back down to five points, 92-87, with 2:14 remaining, but that was as close as the Bulls would get the rest of the game. North Texas closed the game with a 10-4 run and came away with the 102-91 win.

Mike McKie (Brooklyn, NY/Tilden) had a career-game for UB in the loss, scoring a career-high 26 points and pulling down a career-best 10 rebounds, the first double-double of his career. Brian Keenan (Kenmore, NY/Canisius HS) also had a career high with 13 points off the bench and Rick Fox added 12 points. North Texas was led by Chris Davis with 28 points and Dexter Tennell with 26.
