UB Falls in Indiana ClassicBLOOMINGTON, IN - The Bulls had the unfortunate task of facing the Indiana Hoosiers in the first round of the Indiana Classic at Assembly Hall, and UB found out why the Hoosiers had never lost in their own tournament going into the game. Indiana used a couple of big runs to come away with a 106-55 victory. The Bulls played tough and kept it close early in the game thanks to some three-point shooting. UB's first four baskets were all three-pointers, three of those four coming from Alexei Vasiliev (St. Petersburg, Russia). Two fast break layups, one by Vasiliev, and another three-pointer by Louis Campbell (Rahway, NJ/Rahway) kept it close at 20-19 with 11:38 left in the first half. The Hoosiers then went on a 19-0 run, including nine straight points from All-American A.J. Guyton. With that run, Indiana closed the half with a 23-7 run to lead 43-26 at halftime. The second half saw the Hoosiers pick up where they left off, opening the half with a 19-2 run, extending the lead to 34 points, 62-28, with 14:51 remaining. The Bulls were too far in the hole at that point and the Hoosiers momentum from the 13,000 fans carried the team to a 106-55 win. The Bulls (2-5) were led in scoring by Alexei Vasiliev with 13 points,
11 of which came in the first seven minutes of the game. Louis Campbell added
11 points and five rebounds for UB. Indiana (6-0) was led by All-American A.J.
Guyton with 22 points and Kirk Haston with 15. |
