Bulls Fall in Final Exhibition

UB Finishes Exhibition Schedule, Starts Regular Season Next Week

BUFFALO, NY - The UB men's basketball team lost their final tuneup before the regular season. The Bulls lost to the Ohio All Stars 102-74 Friday afternoon at Alumni Arena on Kids Day, as more than 700 local elementary kids spent the day watching the team.

The Bulls got off to a quick start, jumping ahead 12-0 in the first three minutes of the game, as Alexei Vasiliev (St. Petersburg, Russia) scored six of the first 12 points with two three-pointers. The Ohio All-Stars then came back with a 15-0 run to take a three-point lead at the 14:12 mark. The Bulls battled back-and-forth and tied the game at 38-38 with 4:13 left in the half. The All-Stars then went on a 13-2 run to close the half and lead 51-40 at the break.

The second half saw UB hit a scoring draught midway through the half. The Ohio All-Stars led 64-49 with 14:49 to go, and the Bulls went scoreless over the next five minutes, ending the draught on a three-pointer by Damien Foster (Buffalo, NY/Traditional) at the 9:38 mark. The Ohio All-Stars increased their lead to 30 points with a 15-0 run over that five minute span. It was an even game the rest of the way as the Bulls fought tough late in the second half. Rick Fox (Toledo, OH/St. Francis DeSalles) came off the bench to spark the team, scoring on a couple of offensive put backs and fighting hard on the boards. He finished with six rebounds, including five offensive rebounds. The Bulls could get no closer that 22 points the rest of the game and fell by the final score of 102-74.

Damien Foster led the Bulls for the second game in a row with 25 points on 6-of-13 shooting, including five three-pointers. He was also 8-of-12 from the line. Rick Fox came off the bench to score 17 points and grabbed a team-best six rebounds. Mike McKie (Brooklyn, NY/Tilden) also pulled down six boards and blocked four shots.

The Ohio All-Stars were led by former Otterbein College star Kelly McClure who scored a game-high 29 points and Tony White who had 12 rebounds.

UB will start the regular season next week when they host Niagara at Alumni Arena on Friday, November 19, at 7:30 p.m.
