Mennenga Added To Men's Basketball StaffBUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo men's basketball coach Reggie Witherspoon has announced the addition of Michael Mennenga to his staff as a full-time assistant.
The Black Bears ranked among the nation's leaders in many categories this past year. Maine's field goal percentage of 49.7% was sixth in the nation and its 8.2 three-point field goals per game was 25th in the nation. Maine had two players make first-team America East this past year. Before coming to Maine, Mennenga devised the Nike Supersoph Camp in Champaign, IL and had the top 50 sophomores from seven states in the Midwest at the camp. Mennenga began his coaching career at Rantoul HS in 1993 and joined the Parkland Community College staff for one season before moving on to Maine. Mennenga graduated from Morehead State cum laude in 1993 with a degree in finance. He was a two-year starter at Morehead and led the conference in three-point field goal percentage as a junior and was an honorable mention all-conference choice as a senior. Last summer he served as an assistant coach for the Nigerian Junior National Team in the World Junior Basketball Championships. His focus at UB will be on recruiting and perimeter players. "I first met Mike when he was recruiting a player of ours at Erie Community College and was impressed with him then," said Witherspoon. "His reputation among his peers is excellent and after meeting with him I was convinced that he was a perfect fit for our program. He has a great mind for the game, tremendous enthusiasm and has proven himself to be one of the top young recruiters in the country. I am very excited to have Mike join our staff." Mennenga is married to the former Shanneta Buford. |
