Battle Named to Academic All-MAC Team
CLEVELAND, OH Turner Battle (Kernersville, NC/East Forsyth) was named to the 2003 Academic All-MAC men's basketball team as voted on by the league's Faculty Athletic Representatives. It marks the second post-season honor for the sophomore point guard who also earned 2003 All-MAC Honorable Mention accolades. Battle, a communications major, holds a 3.45 grade point average. He was the only player in the conference to be named to both the All-MAC and Academic All-MAC squads. Battle, who missed the final eight games of the season with a fractured and dislocated finger, led the Bulls in scoring (12.7 ppg), assists (4.5 apg) and steals (1.9 spg). He was also averaging 35.3 minutes per game. His game got stronger as the season progressed, reaching double-figures in scoring in his final 11 games of the season and distributing 24 assists compared to only four turnovers over his last five games. He scored a career-high 21 points against Penn State and dished out a career-high nine assists in a win over Niagara. Following a 19-point, five-assist and four-steal performance in the Bulls' victory over Eastern Michigan on Feb. 11, Battle was named the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week. This marks the second year in a row that the Bulls' sophomore has been honored by the MAC as he
was named to the conference's All-Freshman team last year. |
