Turner Battle and Mark Bortz Named to Academic All-MAC Team

Battle honored for the third straight year

CLEVELAND, OHTurner Battle (Kernersville, NC/East Forsyth) and Mark Bortz (Commerce Township, MI/Walled Lake Central) were both named to the Academic All-MAC Team on Wednesday as voted on by the league’s Faculty Athletic Representatives. This is the third straight season that Battle has been named to the team, while Bortz earns the honor for the second consecutive year.

Battle, who was named a second-team Academic All-American and was the Mid-American Conference Player of the Year this season, has a 3.55 grade point average as a communications major. It marks the third straight year that the senior point guard has been named to both the All-MAC and Academic All-MAC teams. Battle is averaging 15.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 4.4 assists on the season.

Bortz is a business management major who sports a 3.48 GPA. The senior forward earned the MAC Sixth Man Award and was named All-MAC Honorable Mention this season. Bortz ranks second on the team in scoring (10.1 ppg) and rebounding (5.8 rpg). He leads the Bulls in blocked shots with 36.

The Academic All-MAC team is voted on by league Faculty Athletic Representatives from a ballot of nominated student-athletes. Student-Athletes must have a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade point average and appear in at least 50 percent of the team’s contests.
