Witherspoon And Battle Honored By MAC
CLEVELAND, OH The accolades continue for the Buffalo men's basketball team as Reggie Witherspoon was named the Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year and Turner Battle (Kernersville, NC/East Forsyth) was named to the All-MAC Second Team. Witherspoon, who was named the collegeinsider.com Mid-Major Coach of the Year on Monday, has led the Bulls to a 17-11 overall record and an 11-7 mark in the MAC. The nine-win improvement in MAC play is the second-biggest turnaround in the history of the conference. In addition, the Bulls' 12-win improvement overall so far this season, is the second-best turnaround among all Division I schools this year.
As for Battle, this is the third year in a row that the junior point guard has been honored by the conference. Last season, Battle was named All-MAC Honorable Mention. In 2002, he was named to the MAC All-Freshman team. Battle leads the Bulls in four statistical categories - scoring (14.2 ppg), assists (4.1 apg), steals (1.8 spg) and minutes played (33.5 mpg). Buffalo defeated Northern Illinois in the first round of the First Energy Mid-American
Conference Tournament at Alumni Arena on Monday. The Bulls have advanced to the quarterfinals where they will
face Toledo on Thursday night at the Gund Arena in Cleveland. Tipoff is slated for 9 pm. |
