ATHENS, OH - The University at Buffalo men’s basketball team went into Ohio’s Convocation Center on Sunday afternoon and scored 80 points – the most ever by a UB team. However, it wasn’t enough as the Bobcats shot a sizzling 62 percent en route to a 94-80 win over the Bulls.

The loss means the Bulls will be the 12th seed in the upcoming First Energy Mid-American Conference Tournament and will play fifth-seed Miami on Wednesday night at 8:00 pm at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

Buffalo (10-19, 3-13) was led by Andy Robinson (Schenectady, NY/Schenectady) who scored 23 points – his seventh 20-plus point effort of the season. He also had three steals to become just the third UB player in the modern Division I era (since 1991) to total 50 or more steals in back to back seasons.

Max Boudreau (Montreal, Quebec/Champlain-St. Lambert) added 12 points and pulled down a team-high six rebounds. Greg Gamble (Niagara Falls, NY/Niagara Falls) had eight points, five rebounds and three assists for the Bulls.

For the second straight game, the Bulls tied a season-low with 11 turnovers. Buffalo outrebounded the Bobcats, 34-32, including 17 offensive boards that led to 14 second-chance points.

Ohio (19-11, 9-7 MAC) started the game off hot and never cooled. The Bobcats raced out to a 58-44 lead at the break and never looked back.

Buffalo got back-to-back three-pointers from Robinson to cut the Ohio advantage to 68-56 four minutes into the second half. But that would be as close as the Bulls would get.

Leon Williams, Jerome Tillman and Bubba Walther combined to score 72 of the Bobcats’ 94 points. Williams had 30 points on 10-of-11 shooting to lead all scorers.

“Ohio shot the ball great and had great balance of inside and outside play,” head coach Reggie Witherspoon said. “In the end, they had great leadership on the floor and it showed.”
