Bird Named MAC East Division Player of WeekBUFFALO, NY - University at Buffalo sophomore Jason Bird (Ypsilanti, MI/Ypsilanti) had his career week recgonized by the Mid-American Conference on Sunday, earning MAC East Division Player of the Week honors.
Three times this past week Bird established a career high for points while averaging 17.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game as Buffalo went 1-2 in league play. Monday at Eastern Michigan, he set a career-best with 15 points, before tallying 16 points on the road at Western Michigan on Wednesday. In Saturday's regular-season finale, a 70-66 win over Akron, Bird scored 20 points on 8-of-14 shooting. He fueled a second-half comeback from a 12-point deficit as the Bulls rallied for their second league victory. Bird hit his fourth three-point field goal of the afternoon with :39 left to give the Bulls the lead for good. He also grabbed a career-high nine rebounds at Eastern Michigan and drilled eight three-point goals during the week. Bird is the first UB player to be honored this season as Player of the Week. Buffalo will play at Northern Illinois on Monday night in the first round of the First Energy MAC Men's Basketball Tournament. Tipoff is slated for 7:05 pm (CST) and can be heard on WWKB-AM (1520). |
