Calvin Betts Named Sixth Man of the Year by MAC Report Online
Betts, who has played a reserve role in all 28 games this season, leads the Bulls in rebounding (6.6 rpg) and ranks second on the team in scoring (9.0 ppg). He also leads UB in field goal percentage (.505) and ranks second in blocked shots (14). With the rash of injuries that have desecrated the Bulls' frontcourt, the 6-3 Betts has been asked to play the power forward position. The former guard has relished the opportunity and his numbers have improved since making the move. Over the last 17 games, Betts has averaged 11.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. He has registered four double-doubles and has pulled down double-digit rebounds six times over that span. Betts has scored in double-figures in 10 of the 15 MAC games.
The Mid-American Conference will announce its selection for the Sixth Man of the Year next week. Betts is looking to become the second UB player to earn the award. Mark Bortz was named the Sixth Man of the Year in 2005.
